Actress Lili Reinhart, known for her roles in “Riverdale” and “Hustlers,” is set to lead the cast of the upcoming mystery thriller “American Sweatshop.” The film, which delves into the dark underbelly of social media, boasts an impressive lineup of producers, including Oscar winner Barry Levinson (“Rain Man”) and acclaimed showrunner Tom Fontana (“Oz”).
“American Sweatshop,” directed by Emmy nominee Uta Briesewitz, follows the story of Daisy Moriarty, portrayed by Reinhart, as she navigates the chaotic world of internet content moderation. Moriarty and her colleagues work in a cottage industry tasked with evaluating disturbing images and videos flagged for review. However, when a particularly violent video captures Moriarty’s attention, she embarks on a dangerous journey to seek accountability outside the confines of her office.
Reinhart expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “American Sweatshop tackles this subject in an inventive and engaging way that had me hooked from page one. I’m thrilled to be working with Uta on this topical and slyly entertaining film.”

Kirk D’Amico, representing the film’s production team, commented, “We are very pleased to present this very original film which stars Lili Reinhart as a reviewer of social media posts which are deemed questionable, a job no one wants. Uta Briesewitz’s directorial vision will give audiences a thought-provoking look into the dark side of the internet. This is a timely and compelling story.“
Reinhart’s recent projects include starring in and producing the independent limited series “Hal & Harper” opposite Mark Ruffalo, as well as executive-producing and starring in the Netflix feature “Look Both Ways.” Briesewitz’s extensive experience as a Director of Photography on acclaimed series like “The Wire” and “Hung” further solidifies her role in bringing “American Sweatshop” to life.
