Dune is among the highly rated movies of 2021, and it was obvious because the movie was dealing with a very solid plotline with tons of action sequences. That’s why the Warner Bros studio moved forward with Dune 2, the sequel of it’s 2021 version.
The project was announced back in early 2022 and now we all are waiting for it, and why not, after all it’s been two years since we’ve seen the first film. Now since 2023 is about to end, there are many confusions regarding the release schedule and the future of this epic saga, however, we have some very latest updates that might lead you in right direction.

Dune 2 Release Date : Why There Is A Confusion?
The biggest factor which is surprising the fans of this epic saga is none other then the release date of Dune 2. The movie is dealing with back to back developments in it’s schedule which is also affecting it’s marketing.
Earlier this year, we got the first teaser from this movie and it was enough to hype up the audience for an action packed sequel. It was revealed in the teaser that Dune 2 will release in late 2023, and just after few months of waiting, we finally got the first official full length trailer of Dune 2. The second trailer was even much better and it was the one which confirmed that Dune 2 is going to land in our theatres on 20 October 2023.
Unfortunately, the strike of SAG-AFTRA started in the Hollywood from the summers of 2023 and it made a very bad impact on almost every project of every other studio. Due to this, Warner Bros decided to shift the release date of Dune 2 from 20 October 2023 to the last week of November 2023.
In early September, the studio again shifts the release date of this project, however, this time they decided to release it in the first week of November, which was a surprise for it’s fans.
But now, there are some bad news about it, and all these updates are official. According to the latest updates, Dune Part 2 will now no longer release in 2023, it’s sad but it’s true.
Warner Bros has officially confirmed that Dune 2 will now hit our nearby theatres on 15 March, 2024, and hence, delaying it by three additional months.
Practically, it’s not a bad move because the strikes are still active in the Hollywood and the studios are still trying to come up with a perfect deal to settle it. Between all this chaos, it’s obvious that the studios are not able to promote their movies properly, which can also make a very bad impact on the performance.
So by delaying Dune 2 till March 2024, Warner Bros is now giving itself a chance to make a proper plan for it’s marketing and hence, ensuring a solid release schedule as well.
However, it again depend upon the present conditions of the Hollywood because some rumors are also claiming that Dune 2 might land before March as well.
If rumors to be believed then if the strikes ends by the end of this year, then Warner Bros might surprise it’s fans by releasing the sequel in the month of February as well. So we have to keep our eyes on the Hollywood to know more about it.
Is Dune 3 Confirmed : What Is The Future Of This Saga?
Whenever we talks about the projects which have been adapted from any book, we also talks about their future as well. The Dune saga is endless and so the possibilities, that’s why the director as well as the studio are already looking forward to convert this saga into a trilogy.
Yes it’s not a joke because the officials are already going to start their work on the third part of this epic franchise very soon.
If you don’t know then the studio has officially announced a spinoff with the name of Dune : Sisterhood, which is going to take place 10,000 years before the events of Dune. The show will also open the doors to uncover many other tales which might be hidden in this journey.
However, the spinoff is not the only thing which we are getting in the near future. In an interview, director Denis Villeneuve has officially confirmed that he will be working on the third part of Dune in the near future.
He mentioned that both Dune and its sequel are based upon the first book, and since there is a second book with the name of ‘The Messiah of Dune,’ they will be bringing it’s story in the form of third film.
If you don’t know then Dune: Messiah was written by the author in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero, which is not what the author wanted to do. We also knows that the movie is a direct adaptation of author’s point of view and that means, there is a huge possibility that we might see the events of the second book in Dune 3.
However, it also depends upon the events which are going to take place by the end of the sequel because we knows that these types of movies always tries to leave hints on which their future can be written or decided.
As per now, everything is looking too good to be true, and why not, Dune was a success for the studio and it’s sequel is already looking very promising. If it manages to earn some handsome amount of money then we might see Dune 3 sooner rather then later as well.
